It’s that time of the year again when customers put their work hats aside, bring out their rackets and get on their best playing stance for the MPower Partners Badminton Cup. Now on its 3^rd year, the MPower Partners Badminton Cup is a highly anticipated sporting event – this year’s edition was held on March 10 at The Upper Deck Sports Center. The tournament welcomed 86 players from 12 partner companies and industry associations.

Registration opened early. MPower representatives greeted guests and gave them their official playing shirts and company banners. SAVP and Head of Retail Sales, Emman de Ramos, welcomed the players and officially opened the tournament. Tournament Director Rose Ann Navor, also MPower Strategic Account Manager, discussed the tournament guidelines. In true sports fashion, players took the oath of sportsmanship led by John Adug (SAM); while the hosts, Frank Esteban and Glaiza Lampa (SAM), got the crowd on their feet as the attendees gamely answered tournament-related trivia questions.  

To officially commence the games, SVP and MPower Head Jobert Almazora led the ceremonial toss along with fellow badminton enthusiasts and executives, including Mr. Nonie Galpa, COO of Pioneer Float Glass Manufacturing Inc.; Ms. Irene Jose, COO of Uniprom. Inc. (Araneta Group); Robert Chan, Jr., Vice President of Atlanta Industries Corp.; Ms. Carmen Francisco, CFO of Interphil Laboratories Inc.; Mr. Eric Eguia, AVP of Maynilad; Mr. Ding Paras, VP, Operations of Rombe Philippines Inc.; Mr. Dan Lachica, President of SEIPI; Mr. Nelson Rafer, COO of Yazaki Torres Mfg. Inc.; and Mr. Ronnie Aperocho, SVP and Networks Head of Meralco.

Guests were in for a treat as they enjoyed special discounts from the Mizuno booth and witnessed siblings Kennie and Kennevic Asuncion, the first Filipinos to qualify for the 2006 world badminton championships in the Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam, play an exhibition game with other recognized badminton players, Carlo Remo (Ateneo Badminton Team Captain) and Gelita Castilo (member of the UP Diliman Badminton Team).
