Staying on top of the latest news and global developments, MPower held its first Partners’ Forum for the year last Thursday, April 7. The event gathered more than 200 industry titans from more than a hundred partner companies to listen and actively initiate dialogue regarding the developments in the energy and pandemic recovery space. Thought leaders Dir. Mario C. Marasigan, Officer-in-Charge of the Electric Power Industry Management Bureau of the Department of Energy and Dr. Guido David, OCTA Research Fellow, spearheaded the engaging discourse with MPower partners.
AVP and MPower Retail Sales Head, Mr. Eddie John V. Adug opened the program and stressed the pivotal and important role a leader plays to ensure business continuity and resiliency. He ended his message on an optimistic note hoping that we can overcome these challenges and come out stronger, more discerning, and more resilient.
Dir. Mario Marasigan ensured the attendees that the DOE has all the bases covered and necessary measures are in place to ensure supply continuity for the rest of the year, especially during the election period. They established new partnerships, coordinated maintenance schedules with power plants, increased available transfer of electricity between Luzon and Visayas, among others. On energy efficiency, DOE has initiated and is continually monitoring several programs that support and forward the agenda of new, clean, and renewable energy.
OCTA Research Fellow Dr. Guido David lauded the Philippines’ recent pandemic response against the widespread transmission of the Omicron variant last January of this year. He noted that the Philippines was able to bounce back to a lower alert level status in a month’s time vis-à-vis other neighboring countries still experiencing a surge of cases. While another surge is possible in the coming months given the low booster intake coupled with the uptick of cases worldwide, Dr. David reports that the symptoms seem to be far from drastic as compared to the previous variants’ surges given the daily cases reported in the country. Waning vaccine efficiency and upcoming local and national events may cause an increase in cases, hence, boosters and practicing safety protocols are still highly recommended.
Mr. Roberto R. Almazora, SVP and Head of MPower, rounded up the talk by sharing the efforts and initiatives undertaken to strengthen customer engagement through the exchange of relevant discourse in the last two years. Coming from the last forum, MPower, along with its affiliates and partner organizations, has continued their pursuit of community development through national relief operations for Typhoon Maring and Odette, Back to School Donation Drive, and CommuniTrees. All of which has been recognized in the recent Zuellig Pharma’s Supplier Sustainability Awards where MPower bagged gold besting other countries in the region.
