Light in the New Normal
November 11, 2020

As a continued value-added service to its partners, MPower, together with Vantage Energy, conducted its 6th Executive Forum Series online last November 11. Topics brought focus to the economic outlook of 2021 and how businesses can navigate through this new normal.

The very first digital forum was attended by 285 leaders, representing 160+ different partner companies of MPower and Vantage Energy. This highly engaging session led by two esteemed powerhouse speakers, Dr. Bernardo Villegas, a multi-awarded economist, and professor, and Mr. Josiah Go, one of the country's most awarded business educators and respected marketing experts.

Meralco President and CEO, Mr. Ray C. Espinosa, opened the program and welcomed guests. Dr. Bernie Villegas started the forum with his much-anticipated talk on the Philippine economic standing and forecast. He emphasized that despite a significant drop in the Philippines' GDP score this year, the Philippine economy can withstand the blows of the pandemic because of our demographic dividend, geographic advantage, and the transition to an upper-middle-income economy. It is projected that the Philippines will continually grow up to 6-8% every year for the next 5-10 years.

Following Dr. Villegas is Mr. Josiah Go, who presented different case studies from local and international businesses that depict successful business model shifts. Mr. Go expounded that enterprises can always be changed and reconfigured. He emphasized that what matters now is for business to strengthen its value proposition and brand purpose to stay relevant during these changing times.

The last part of the program was a bustling question & answer portion where participants had the opportunity to ask and consult the esteemed speakers on their related topics. Senior Vice President and Head of MPower, Mr. Roberto Almazora, thanked guests and concluded the program with his closing remarks.

Despite the adverse effects of the pandemic, our economy has strong fundamentals that can keep the economy thriving. Businesses must now learn to continuously evolve in this highly dynamic landscape that we are in right now. The record-breaking attendance this year is a testament to each and everyone's strong desire and dedication to come out victorious in this new normal.
