MPower and its Partners support DOE ILP
October 27, 2014
In support of the power shortage during the summer of 2015, MPower, together with its business partners, recently held an Interruptible Load Program (ILP) forum at the Meralco Mini Theater.

Department of Enery (DOE) Senior Science Research Specialist, Engr. Norman Vincent Martinez, apprised the audience of DOE'S Power Supply Outlook for next year. Engr. Martinez said that projections show a potential generation deficiency of up to 600MW for certain weeks of the summer of 2015. He said that the private sector can help alleviate this in the short term by joining the ILP.

Meralco Utility Economics Head, Lawrence S. Fernandez, explained the mechanics of the implementation of ILP for captive customers. Under the ILP, large customers are called upon to voluntarily reduce their consumption during periods of generation deficiency, instead of drawing power directly from the grid.

Meanwhile, Assistant Vice President and Commercial Operations Head of MPower, Ernesto M. Cabral, discussed the proposed ILP mechanics and billing protocols for contestable customers joining the program. He underscored that the participation of MPOWER's customers will contribute significantly to the success of the program.

Representatives from more than 132 companies attended the MPOWER ILP forum and the retailer has already been able to line up more than 150 MW of deloading capacity from customers that have heeded the DOE's call to help address a possible tight power supply situation for 2015.
