Once more in support of the Department of Education’s K-12 program and as one of MPower’s banner Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, MPower spearheaded the construction of two new Kinder classrooms at the Malabon Elementary School in Hulong Duhat, Malabon City. The project was made possible through the concerted efforts of thirteen (13) of MPower’s partner companies; namely AGC Flat Flass Philippines, Inc. (jalousies), Universal Steel Smelting Company Inc. (steel bars), Cofta Mouldings Inc. (tables and chairs), Moldex Products, Inc. (pipes), Eagle Cement Corporation (cement), James Hardie Philippines, Inc. (ceiling boards), Eurotiles Industrial Corp. (tiles), Oakridge Properties, Inc. – Discovery Centre (cash), Glades International Corporation (volunteers and school supplies), Ashlar Industrial Corporation – Orocan (multimedia system), Saffron Philippines Inc. (LED lights), United Laboratories, Inc. (AH1N1 Kits), and Styrotech Corporation (notebooks), who pooled their resources to contribute to this notable cause. including One Meralco Foundation and Miescor Builders.
Twenty-five (25) employee volunteers from MPower and Glades International Corporation worked hand-in-hand in a joint pointing activity on June 4, 2016. After only 60 days of construction, the two new Kinder classrooms were officially turned over to its beneficiaries on June 16, 2016.
The program began with the ribbon cutting ceremony participated in by Malabon Mayor Hon. Antolin (Len Len) Oreta III, followed by the blessing of the new classrooms. Malabon Elementary School Principal Riza Andrade officially delivered her opening remarks, while Mr. Roberto Almazora, Senior Vice President and Head of MPower, gave a special message to the participating valued business partners. Kinder pupils also prepared heartwarming numbers and distributed orange flags with thank you letters addressed to the sponsors. Other attendees who graced the event include Department of Education (DepEd) Asst. Superintendent Imelda Caro, MPower and Meralco officers, and executives, from MPower partner companies who contributed to the project.
Malabon Elementary School educates 4,200 students yearly, 408 of which are Kinder pupils who then shared 3 classrooms and 1 makeshift room. With the help of MPower and partners, two (2) new Kinder classrooms in the school are now complete with books, toys, teaching materials and multimedia equipment, and house 120 Kinder pupils over four shifts.
The collaboration between MPower and its partners continues to provide the concrete testimony towards “Harmony in Partnerships”.
