MPowering the youth's education through a modern version of Bayanihan
August 1, 2015

In support of the Department of Education’s K to 12 Program, MPower and One Meralco Foundation (OMF), together with its partners (AGC Flat Glass Phil. Inc., COFTA Mouldings Inc., Davies Paints Phil. Inc., Eagle Cement Corp., Eurotiles Industrial Corp., James Hardie Phil. Inc., Moldex Products Inc., ROHM Electronics Phil. Inc., Universal Steel Smelting Company Inc. and MEFCI), collaborated to build a Kinder classroom in Lagundi Elementary School in Plaridel, Bulacan, benefiting 90 kinder pupils.

It was a sunny Monday morning on July 13, 2015, when the first MPower Kindergarten classroom was inaugurated. The day started with the classroom blessing led by Rev. Fr. Arnel Camacho followed by an opening speech from Ms. Lorena E. Villalon, School Principal. Her welcome remarks centered on how communal unity or “Bayanihan” from the past is still seen and felt in today’s modern times, citing MPower and OMF’s project as a concrete example.

Moments after that, Roberto R. Almazora, Senior Vice President and Head of MPower, shared how the idea of building a classroom came about; stating that MPower wanted to do something beneficial for others and also develop its partnership with its customers, from simply empowering their businesses to enjoining them to empower the future through youth education.

With the completion of this modern day bayanihan project, it was a happy day for Lagundi Elementary School and for the province of Bulacan.
