PH Jumpstarts Economy & Sees Positive Outlook for 2022
November 19, 2021
MPower remains committed to providing service above and beyond the confines of its contract, by providing exclusive learning events to its partners. Last Friday, November 19, it held its 7th Executive Forum series which delved into the 2022 economic, pandemic, and political forecasts presented by revered speakers Dr. Bernie Villegas, Dr. Guido David, and Dr. Julio Teehankee respectively. Aptly themed “The 2022 Philippine Economic Outlook & Impact of the Upcoming Elections”, the forum gathered 241 leaders from 129 companies from various industries.

Atty. Ray C. Espinosa, Meralco President & CEO, welcomed leaders from the Philippines’ top corporations and stressed how everyone’s positive actions create a ripple effect towards rebuilding, renewing, and refreshing our economy. The presentation of Dr. Villegas gave a glimpse on how the Philippines economic performance fared better, veering us away from economic collapse. “By the 1st quarter of next year, we will be back to pre-pandemic [progression] levels.” said Dr. Villegas. Researcher, Professor and Octa Research Fellow, Dr. Guido David’s COVID-19 forecasts were also optimistic with cases projected to decline in the next few months, supporting a higher voter turnout in the May 2022 national elections. The Philippines expects a continuous decline in cases given continuous vaccination drives and adherence to safety protocols. Julio Teehankee analyzed the political landscape, sharing insights on past and present candidates, and their potential impact to the economy. According to Dr. Teehankee, “The candidate who can present the best plan to exit the pandemic; revive the economy; communicate this plan through a compelling narrative; and successfully form the winning coalition, will win the presidency.” He also emphasized our power as citizens to vote and seat the best leader that would navigate us to a better and empowered future. Senior Vice President and Head of MPower, Roberto R. Almazora, capped off the event as he highlighted MPower’s sustainability agenda; consisting of supporting new renewable energy development; continued greening efforts through CommuniTrees (8,000 seedlings planted by end 2021); and community inclusion through education (via partnership donations in kind and cash reaching over a million pesos to support the modular learning of Filipino children. This was also a year where MPower partners enjoyed exclusive discounts on programs and services through synergies with Meralco Power Academy (premier energy education) and Radius (pure fiber connectivity), again highlighting the spectrum of services of the Meralco group of companies.
